Embodiment is a body-focused approach to well-being. A lot of us get stuck in our heads with over-analyzing and ruminating over things. We can easily dissociate or numb out to escape our “monkey minds” through technology, media, or other substances, but those become band-aids for our symptoms, and don’t get to the root of our issues. Embodiment goes deeper to our emotions and sensations to help us process and release stagnant energy as well as feel more at ease and present in our daily lives. Embodiment can include mindfulness, somatic practices, creative expression, and more.

One definition of chronic illness is as follows: “A chronic illness is a long-term health condition that lasts for a year or more and requires ongoing medical attention or limits daily activities.”
I personally believe that in today’s modern world, especially in the Western Hemisphere, we are unable to live lives as “human beings,” and are expected to be “human doings,” which causes dis-ease in our bodies, minds, and spirits. Many of the systems and “isms” we all live around and within are harmful to us. Because many of our systems are based on white, cisgendered men, many folks who experience chronic illness include black, brown, and indigenous communities, as well as women and the LGBTQ+ community.

As noted, our systems can be harmful to us as humans…that includes the medical system (especially in the United States of America). I personally have experienced suffering, trauma, and PTSD at the hands of the US medical system. I could go on about more systems and isms.
